John Santos Taitano
John Santos Taitano, 79, of Baza Gardens, Guam passed away Friday February 9, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born December 27, 1938 to John Flores Taitano and Rosario Santos Taitano in Hagatna, Guam.
John was born on the island of Guam in 1938, he graduated from George Washington High School in 1956 and joined the US Army. He served for 20 years as an Infantryman, Cavalry Scout and Signal Soldier. He retired from the Army in 1977 after serving all over the world including the Vietnam War. After he retired, he returned to Guam to serve the island as the director and deputy director of several Government of Guam agencies. He provided sound advice and leadership for many island leaders throughout his public service. He also started several successful businesses and eventually retired from that public life in 2010. He met his wife Julia, in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. His two sons also serve in the US Army, one retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and the other still serves as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Julia Y Taitano, his sons; John S. Taitano, Jr. (Jennifer) and Stephen W. Taitano (Jasmine), his sister; Mary Torre, his brothers; Richard , Peter and Roland Taitano and 7 grandchildren, Skyyler, Madison , John M. , Matthew , Kristen , Benjamin and Trevor Taitano.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Taitano and Rosario S. Taitano and his brother, William Joseph Taitano.
A visitation will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, February 16, 2018, with the funeral service and Rosary held at 2:00pm on Saturday February 17, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Chapel,
926 S. Litchfield Rd. Goodyear, AZ 85338.
Final resting place will be at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at a later date.
The family suggests donations be made to MAYO clinic in Phoenix, AZ.
Albert Larry Marler
Albert Larry Marler, age 79, passed away Monday, February 5th, 2018 in Surprise, Arizona. Larry was born September 14, 1938 in Fairview, Idaho and was the firstborn of Reed Taylor and Evelyn Baird Marler.
He was an avid skier and reached national status with the National Ski Patrol. He was a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as a district chairman. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Larry worked as a scientist and chemical engineer for his entire career and helped develop the B2 Stealth bomber and other projects dealing with space technology.
Upon retiring, he was a frequent traveler and enjoyed meeting and making new friends on his world-wide travels. He served as the Trail Master for the Sun City Grand RVers. He served as a member of the architectural review board for Surprise. He was also a member of the Surprise Sundancers where he enjoyed spring training with Major League Baseball teams.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life VeAnn Osterlin Marler, his children; Sherri (Jonathon) Montgomery; Laurel Ann Halbritter; Jeff Larry Marler; Christopher Paul (Tina) Marler; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; siblings: Judy (Dallas) Perry; Bruce (Beverly) Marler; Tauna (Randal) Ralphs.
There will be a celebration of life service at the LDS church, 23391 N 166th Drive in Surprise, AZ, on Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m.
