Michael Anthony “Tony” Nikes

Michael Anthony (Tony) Nikes, 65 years of age, passed at home, on Thursday, May 18, 2023, after a brief illness. Tony was born on July 5, 1957, in St Joseph, Missouri to the late James and Mary Nikes. He was the middle son of 3 children, James Nikes III and Tamara (Nikes) Hagen.

Tony had severe asthma as a child, so his family moved to Arizona in 1969. He came to not only outgrow asthma but excelled in all sports, including baseball, football, basketball, swimming, and moto-cross racing. Albeit short in stature, it didn’t hold him back. He always was a natural athlete.

Tony enlisted in the Marines in 1975 and upon graduation from bootcamp he was awarded the meritorious PFC rank of his platoon. He was stationed at Moffett Field Airforce Base as part of a Marine Security Guard. He provided security for the protection of highly sensitive military assets vital to national security. Chiefly, state-of-the-art patrol aircraft and all underwater weaponry deployed for anti-submarine warfare. His time in the service molded the foundation which he lived his life by.

Tony married Annette (Lewis) Nikes in 1990. Annette brought a son, Michael Lancer, from a previous marriage and together they had a son, Nicholas. He worked in various construction trades until he was injured while on the job in 2008 and was disabled. But that didn’t stop him from helping his family and friends with their needs. His main joy in life was his family and their well-being (and watching baseball!).

Tony leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife Annette, sons Nicholas Nikes and Michael Lancer and wife Sandy, daughter Jennifer Nikes and son Michael Nikes and wife Lesia, 7 grandchildren, brother Jim and sister Tami, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
