Kay Ann Schlack

Kay Ann Schlack, 76, of Surprise, Arizona passed away on September 27, 2023. She was born on March 28, 1947, to Eleanor Lucille Bloss and Robert Anthony Schmelzer in Detroit Michigan. She was one of three children.

Marrying your High School Sweetheart is a dream for many but for Kay and her husband Robert “Bob” Edward Schlack, it was a reality. The pair met at their high school and after many years of dating, they wed on August 27, 1966, at Peace Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan. Just one year later they welcomed their daughter Jodi into the world. Kay and Bob were married for 57 beautiful years.

Kay was a free spirit and took that approach in her parenting. She loved her family with all her heart. She was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed devoting her time to her husband and family. She thrived in the role of Meme for her two granddaughters. She “babysat” only once a week, so she let them eat whatever their little hearts desired, including ice cream twice a day. Their favorite activity was riding their bikes down to the pond and feeding the ducks together.

In her free time, Kay loved to craft and was a master floral arranger. She could arrange anything from flowers to succulents and each arrangement was more than stunning. Kay also enjoyed volunteering at Saint Mary’s Food Bank where she would help pack lunch bags for the local children.

Kay is survived by her husband of 57 years Bob Schlack, her daughter Jodi Roll, Son in law Brian Roll, Sister Lynn Schmelzer, Brother Dale Schmelzer, Sister-in-law Sandy Schmelzer, and lastly her two granddaughters Miranda and Jillian Roll. She is preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and Robert Schmelzer and her In-laws Lila and Emil Schlack.

A private service was held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Saint Mary’s Food Bank or by donating to your local food bank.

  2. Thank you for entrusting Simply Cremation & Funeral Arrangements to handle the final arrangements for Kay. My thoughts remain with Bob and the rest of her family and friends during this difficult time.
