Judith Lauvn Hammer

Judith Lauvn Hammer (Judy), age 71, of Surprise, Arizona, peacefully departed this life to join the Lord and his beautiful rose garden in heaven on September 17th, 2016

She was born to Elbert and Lola Belle Hogue (Thomas) on September 15th, 1945, in Canon City, Colorado. Her family moved to Pueblo, Colorado where she graduated from Central Highschool in 1963 and ended up marrying the love of her life, James Hammer on October 21st, 1967. Judy  lived in Colorado for the first 46 years of her life before moving to Arizona because she wanted to live somewhere warm and was tired of shoveling snow.

Judy was a spirited country girl and a generous soul. People who met her said she was a wonderful and selfless woman. She was a devoted wife, mother to all of her children as well as all of her children’s friends. She was known as the cool neighborhood mom because she always wanted to make sure they were safe, well fed and taken care of when they weren’t at their own homes. Family was everything to her, she always helped her parents by taking care of  her younger siblings and loved getting together for her favorite holiday, Christmas.  Judy was a very optimistic and strong willed woman who fought for everything she believed in.  When entering her home you could see her love for scratcher tickets, coin collections, decorating  and caring for her beautiful rose garden. Her hard work, values, generous nature and love for family as well as friends are just a few of the many wonderful things about her that everyone will remember.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, James Hammer; mother, Lola Belle Thomas, mother-in-law, Lou Pittullo; her daughters, Shawn (Chris) Hammer, Ashley Hammer; Step-children, Mark Hammer, Stacie Gipson; grandchildren, Mark Anthony Hammer, Christopher Hammer, Michael Gipson, Austin Gipson and Kimberly Gipson; Great-grandchildren, Jett Hammer; siblings, Bonnie Raley, Elbert Hogue, Carl (Pattie) Hogue, Leila (Larry) Scalese, Edwin Hogue, Merlin (Cindy) Thomas; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

  1. My heart aches for you, I wish that I could make all your pain go away. That being said I know that I can’t but I can tell you that I love you you’re the best friend I’ve ever had and that I am praying for you and your family every single day and I wish more than anything in the world that I could be there for support. I’m going to be there in spirit. I’m so very sorry Ash, for you and your family:(
