Joseph D. Anaya

Mr. Joseph David Anaya, 72 of Surprise, Arizona passed away on January 23, 2023, in Surprise, Arizona. He was born on May 17, 1950, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Joseph spent his early years living in Flagstaff, Arizona and moved back to the Phoenix valley as a young man. He found a passion for news broadcasting and started his career in radio with KAFF in Flagstaff and then KTAR and KARZ in Phoenix, then proceeded to move to KPHO channel 5 news station as a producer and IT administrator.

He married the love of his life, Susan in April of 1979. Joseph had a charismatic way with words and a likable personality that seemed to naturally draw other people to him. He had a great love for music, Mexican food, movies, and taking trips to San Diego, California.

Joseph will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have their lives touched by such a remarkable man. He will be remembered as a caring father, husband, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Anaya; his daughter Meghan Anaya; son David Anaya (Sasha); sister Linda Romero (John); brothers Frank Jaramillo (Gloria) and Nestor Jaramillo (Marsha).

Joseph will be honored in a memorial service which will be held later this year.

Our favorite Anaya-isms:

“A donut would be nice.”

“The problem is…”

“I need to have it.”

“Spell my lips.”

“They call the wind Anaya.”

And he always made sure we introduced him as: “You may know my father, Joe Anaya.”
