Donald Clarence Anhorn

Donald Clarence Anhorn, 74, of Weeki Wachee, Florida drove through Heaven’s Gate on June 5, 2024 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on January 17, 1950 in Minot, North Dakota to Clarence and Delores Anhorn; he was the eldest of 5 children.

Growing up on a farm just south of Velva meant Donald learned the value of hard work early on. He and his siblings were responsible for doing their fair share of chores around the farm, but they also valued their time together playing outdoors with each other. Donald also developed his love of cars and trucks while growing up, a passion that would follow him throughout his life. This brought him to a 47 year long career in truck driving. Donald moved to Sawyer, North Dakota and began his own trucking company.

It was also in Sawyer that he began his family. Donald had three wonderful children who he loved with all of his heart. He was the best dad any kid could ask for. He even sacrificed his beloved Chevrolet Nova to teach all three of his kids how to drive a stick shift. Family was everything to Donald. He found great pride in watching his family grow throughout the years and was especially proud of his grandkids and great grandkids.

Donald had the “gift of gab” and could talk to anyone and everyone he met. People just seemed to be drawn to him. There was no “quick chat” when it came to Donald. He could talk for hours about anything from cars and trucking, to his family, to music, especially Elvis and Johnny Cash.

Donald moved to Florida to be with his Fiancé Donna. She introduced Donald to the wonderful world of cruising and together they hit the seas as often as they could. He enjoyed all of his travels but especially loved his trips to Mexico and the Bahamas. After all the harsh cold winters he experienced in North Dakota, Donald just couldn’t get enough of the warm weather. Donald loved to call his kids and tease them during the nice warm Florida winters telling them “Oh we didn’t get any snow today” meanwhile there was a fresh blanket of snow right outside his kid’s doors.

Donald is survived by his fiancé Donna Herring, his daughters Dawn Grossman (Nick) and Amy Bakken, his son Michael Anhorn (Siri), sisters Rita Striha (Mike) and Carol Kramer (Mark), grandchildren Jade, Paije, Brooke, Sydney, Aubrie, LaCher, Destiny, Victoria, Johnathan, Bella, and Myles. Six great-grandchildren. And nieces and nephews; Nicole, Rusty, and Naomi. He is preceded in death by his brother Ray Anhorn, Sister Donna Jean Anhorn, parents Clarence and Delores Anhorn, and his grandparents. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
