Mae Mele Makuakane-Kala

Mrs. Mae Mele Makuakane-Kala, 64 of Litchfield Park, Arizona passed away on June 1, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona, after a short illness. She was born on January 21, 1959, to David Rodrigues and Mae Mele Makuakane in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Mae was the beloved matriarch of our family. Her remarkable life brought joy, comfort, and guidance to countless souls.

She is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Nye; her daughter, Loleina Santiago; her son, Dante Murillo; her sisters, Jolene Makuakane, and Davina Urrutia; her brothers, Wayne Rodrigues, and Eddie Rodrigues, as well as her 2 grandchildren, Alana Santiago, and Donovan Jones

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Damien Lewis.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Her ashes will be spread in the water at Kailua Kona, Hawaii upon Mae’s request.

The family suggests that donations be made to SOS Appalachian Mission: 104 Island Palms Drive, Carolina Beach, NC 28428

  4. My heart is so broken to lose May , so suddenly. I still am getting to realize that I just can’t pick up the phone and call her. The sadness isn’t even able to be expressed. Such a wonderful beautiful soul in Mae . Always loving and a great big smile , hug , how you doing. My heart has you in my prayers and we’re with you in your grief. She truly touched everyone in my family with her big heart of love and generosity. Big hug love you Jim and family. ❤️

  11. I miss her! I wish I could see her again, need to wait until Heaven. Mae always made you feel welcome, her soul was filled with love, a rare heart, always made sure you felt comfortable and cared so much. Mae always made you feel special, her charm and laughter I miss so much, but she’s not forgotten. Her heart and generous attitude is inspiring. If we all loved like Mae, this world would be so much richer.
